We connect school communities with the natural world

Unique, exciting and bespoke citizen science events to ignite a deeper connection with nature for whole school communities; promoting sustainability, wellbeing and hope. Nature wave is a not-for-profit community interest company.

Who are we?

An experienced, passionate team of global educators, conservationists and environmental ambassadors with a mission to create a global ‘wave’ of nature connection, together.

How does Nature Wave connect people with the natural world?

Through exciting events and friendly games based around bioblitzes, which involve discovering & photographing wildlife.

bioblitz is a race against time, with participants striving to find and record as many species of living things as possible in a specific location, within a set time period.

Our ‘Bioblitz Battles’ transform the idea into a friendly game, with ‘rarity points’ for each species. Think Pokemon Go meets Times Table Rock Stars meets Planet Earth!

Positive Action…

Connecting people with nature promotes empathy for wildlife; which is critical to reversing biodiversity loss. It is also proven to reduce anxiety and boost mood; helping to counter the global mental health crisis. Lastly, shared nature experiences foster social bonds and build communities with a common purpose.

Connecting people with nature is the foundation of a sustainable future

How we can help you discover

What do we offer?

Bioblitzes connect a whole school community with nature, together.

Bioblitz BATTLES turn bioblitzes into fun games between classes, school houses or year groups.

Bioblitz BLASTs are friendly games between two or more schools.

How does it work?

Using the award-winning free iNaturalist app, used by millions around the world, our events use photography and AI to connect students and adults with local wildlife. By taking photos and uploading them to the projects we create, you will be contributing to your bioblitz team, as well as collecting real citizen science data that could be used for global conservation efforts.

How long does it last?

Our events usually last 10 days. We recommend starting on the last day of a school week; with a fun launch assembly and our easy-to follow joining guides going home to parents, before two thrilling weekends for everyone to get stuck in to.

What others say…

“A Nature Wave Bioblitz Event is an opportunity for schools to enhance teaching and learning by fostering curiosity, collaboration, and real-world scientific inquiry. These events immerse students in hands-on exploration of biodiversity, encouraging them to observe, document, and analyze local ecosystems while connecting their learning to broader environmental themes. It also strengthens connections across disciplines, integrating inquiry-based learning with technology, geography, and language skills as students communicate findings. I highly recommend this event to any school looking to elevate student engagement and deepen their understanding of the natural world.”

FAQs

How much does it cost?

Prices depend upon the type of event you would like and the size of your school. Simply complete the contact form above and we’ll be in touch to provide full details and arrange a call with you.

How easy is it to arrange?

We’ve got multiple, experienced teachers on our team who know just how busy everyone working in a school is. We’ll take care of everything, from your first enquiry through to providing you with peronalised, simple instructions for students, parents and staff. We’ll also arrange a video call to explain everything clearly and answer any questions you may have.

When can our school take part?

Our bioblitzes take up no curriculum time, and can be run purely outside of lesson time if you wish. They can be arranged any time of the year, to link with school topics, local or international events or the best season for you.

How soon can we start?

To ensure we tailor everything to your school and give you the best possible guides, information and support, we ask that bookings are made at least 2 months in advance.

Is it only for schools?

Currently our focus is to create a network of international schools taking part in Nature Wave events. We are also very happy to talk about putting together similar events for any other group of people or organisation.
